Learning in Museums and Galleries on Facebook

I've created a group on Facebook called Learning in Museums and Galleries. It isn't intended as a rival to MESN, as it doesn't have the stated purpose of enabling students and school systems to interact with museums. It's simply for Facebook users to have a place of connection around their professional interests. If you're not on Facebook yet, though, it might be the time to join!

Hello MESN

I've lost count of the number of social networking sites, e-lists and groups I'm in, but this one looks very relevant to me. You can see who I am and what interests me in my blog http://bridgetmckenzie.blogspot.com/ Yes, I know I don't post very regularly, but feel the quality! You can see what my company does on www.flowassociates.com I look forward to seeing some interesting discussions on here and s… Continue

Hi Bridget,

I run 3 Yahoo! groups already and can see you are very active in this arena too! To that extent I would welcome your advice: you say you have just set up a group in Facebook. I am not currently a member of Facebook. Do you see any discernable differences between running a group in Facebook and MESN?

I also signed up to MySpace and I've seen comments on there from people who are agonising over the large number of groups they are signed up to...yet when I look at the discussion traffic on these sites, it doesn't seem that much. I am wondering whether it is analagous to people with a choice of 25 TV channels who then spend most of their time channel hopping rather that watching any TV?

MESN has been set up as a 'serious' museum site so I'm hoping that will filter out the casual users and those who are more concerned with producing whizzy homepages than joining in serious debate.

Your blog seems to be getting good reviews: well done you! I'll go take a look at that later today.

Best Wishes,

Jerry

Thank you. I wish I had two lives sometimes so I could post more. I have a list of about 30 topics to write on. I'm not short of ideas, just short of time. The trouble is, I've got a damaged back now and can't spend so much time sitting at a computer into the night. Yes, do comment on the blog. I did put out an invitation for another writer to join me too...

Hello, Bridget. I share your feelings about this network in comparison with some others.

Congratulations for your blog. I am a regular reader and enjoyer (I know, maybe I should contribute more on it)
